Bake the pie crust first, then prepare the filling: To produce a slightly sweetened and thickened sauce, heat a mixture of sugar, vanilla, cornstarch, and fresh strawberry puree on the stovetop. Stir in the fresh halved strawberries and pour into the crust that has just baked. After a few hours of cooling in the fridge, top with homemade whipped cream and serve. You may also experiment with a few simple modifications, such as adding two teaspoons of lemon zest for a zesty touch or two tablespoons of cocoa powder for a chocolate whipped cream.
